I'm dwo (2) !!!

Happy New Year Everyone!

I have been scolded lately for not updating our family blog. I thought I just did that a few weeks ago. Gee, I was shocked to see it was actually three months ago. Oops :) Our days are crazy busy and any free time is usually spent cleaning up after two very messy teenage boys and one little cyclone named, Sofia. Well, I'll play catch up. We celebrated Sofia's 2nd birthday on November 25th. It was a great day! She loved our off key rendition of "Happy Birthday" and was delighted with her bouquet of balloons.

When my boys were young I began a tradition to celebrate their birthdays. We all play hooky and do their favorite things during the day. The day ends with a family dinner at the restaurant of their choosing. For Sofia, I chose to introduce her to a toddler gym class. This will have to become a Saturday morning thing because I couldn't get her to leave the place. I finally coaxed her out from underneath the parachute by telling her we would be meeting daddy for French fries. Say no more. The key to this child's heart is food. After a great family dinner including more singing and balloons, we came home for presents and cake. She conked out in the high chair, between bites of cake (more favorites, chocolate and Winnie the Pooh.) I finally got some great birthday pictures taken. I will post them when I can.
Our first Christmas together will be a memorable one for sure. Ed and the boys got the stomach flu just minutes apart. I never saw any virus like it. Sofe and I kept our distance downstairs. I thought we would be all right until I saw she got a hold of one of their germ filled lollypops. Before I could stop her, she was saying "yum- yum- yum" and grinning ear to ear. We both were sick by the next day. I spent Christmas Eve scrubbing crib sheets, blankets, and pajamas. We were diagnosed with a colon virus that hung on for over a week. We stayed quarantined from friends and family for two weeks. Sofia will tell anyone who will listen, "I icky me nigh nights." Fortunately, Sofia still got to meet Santa "Ho Ho" and attend a few Christmas parties beforehand. Plus, there were plenty of presents coming her way for several days following our recovery. Thank you everyone for all the generous birthday and Christmas gifts. She LOVED everything!! Did I mention she really likes snow and isn't really bothered by the unimaginable cold weather we have experienced this winter? For a while there, it was warmer in Alaska.

Her annual check up went very well. Sofia has gained five pounds and has grown almost two inches taller since we returned home in May. Our pediatrician gave us some surprising information. Based on Sofia's current measurements, he predicts her final height to be 5'6. I told him the Colombian people I met appeared to be smaller. He is sticking with his prediction and only time will tell. Looking back, he has been very accurate with his predictions for the boys. Joe has finally admitted that his younger brother, Mike is now officially taller then him.

Speaking of the boys, they are doing awesome. Joe took his SAT exams and is researching colleges. It is hard for me to imagine him leaving home in a year. I'll surely be a basket case. Both boys brought home all A's and high rankings on their second semester report cards. We are so fortunate to have such awesome kids. They make our parenting job so easy. Those that follow our blog may question why I share so much more about Sofe then I do the boys. Well, truth be told, they tell me I can be embarrassing. Huh? Please!! By the time they dictate what is off limits, I have nothing left to share. I respect their privacy. However, I reserve the right to sneak in a snippet here and there.

We had our second post placement interview last week. There really is not too much pressure involved any longer. Since we began this process in early 2004, we have had the same wonderful, supportive caseworker. Sofia was really wound up and being quite a spitfire. I'm happy to say we still got a good report! Luckily, she did not display any of her two-year old temper tantrums during the visit. Early on, we designated the stairway landing as a "time out spot." Little Miss Sofia has reflected on that landing at least once a day for the past month. Sofia is so loving but very independent, mischievous and willful. Her favorite line is, "no mommy." You just can not stay angry at her when you hear that cute little voice say, "I sow-wee mommy."

Lastly, we are progressing into big girl Princess Pull-Ups. Over the past two weeks, without fail, she has come and told me when she had to use the potty. Sofia hasn't been as consistent while at her sitter's house. She gets involved with the other kids and doesn't want to miss anything. If we took away all diapers, I'm certain we would be done in a couple days. We will tackle this when I can be home full time for a week or so. Maybe, we will aim for Spring Break. Well that wraps it up for now. I could make a New Year's resolution to post more frequently. However, I'm really not too good at keeping those.

I had to look at the blog twice before I caught the "dwo". Cute. We have to get together again. The nice weather we had this week we great ! So we will be able to meet at a park. Sofia is getting big and it sounds like she talks more. Good girl going potty too. I can't wait.....I think. Training two at the same time scares me a bit.

Oh boy Oh boy! What a little stinker. I love toddler voices, i have the hardest time not grinning at anything they say! Isn't it hard to believe that it's almost been a year. What was life like before Sofe? Hard to imagine. I can't believe how she has grown, wow! Best of luck on the big girl potty! What a cutie.
